Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Reveals
Class of 2012
and Announces Details for Induction
Ceremony

ATLANTA, GA – April 23, 2012 – The Atlanta Sports
Hall of Fame
announced today the members of its class of
2012. The honorees will be inducted at the organization’s
annual induction and awards ceremony scheduled for June
9, 2012, at the Roswell Cultural Arts Center.

The five inductees chosen include:
Jackie Bradford – a driving force in the Atlanta
basketball community for over four decades.
He was responsible for the expansion of the
Atlanta Tip-off Club and the prestigious Naismith
Awards. He led the way to bring girls basketball
onto the same equal level as boys.
Bill Hartman – an Emmy award winning sports
broadcaster, with a career spanning more than 35
years. He is one of Atlanta’s most recognizable
broadcasters, and has been named Georgia
Sportscaster of the year.
Dr. Phil McCrary- builder of a true basketball
dynasty at DeKalb County’s Columbia High
School. He has over 500 victories as the Eagle’s
head coach, and his teams have won five state
championships.
Mel Pender - Olympic Gold Medalist whose
accomplishments also included 5 world records.
He also served as the first African-American
head coach for the U.S. Military Academy. He
is a three-time All-American and International
champion.
Randy Rhino – The only three-time, first team
All American in Georgia Tech football history.
One of the most decorated Ramblin’ Wreck
players, he was named to the school’s all time
team in 1991, and is a member of the College
Football Hall of Fame.

The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame Honors Court, a
prestigious group of Atlanta sports, media, and business
leaders, selected the 2012 Hall of Fame inductees as part
of a comprehensive public nominations process and a
three-step selection process.

The Awards and Induction Ceremonies for the class of
2012 will be held, Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Roswell
Arts Center in Roswell Georgia. The evening’s festivities,
which include a reception, silent auction and a parade of
past inductees, concludes with the awards and induction
ceremony. Tickets are available to the public and ticket
levels include $25 for general admission tickets and $100

The Atlanta Sports Hall of Fame mission is to honor
Atlanta sports heroes, remember great moments in
Atlanta Sports history, and preserve the past from which
future generations can learn and take pride. The Atlanta
Sports Hall of Fame Foundation is a Georgia non-profit
corporation and has a 501(c)(3) status with the IRS.

(2006) Jim Riley and Red Moore did our first speakers bureau program at a Rotary Club in Cobb County. 

 

(2006) Cory Kessler with Fox Sports has put together a

2 1/2 minute video of the Induction Ceremony (we will show at the August 23rd meeting).

Cory also will be having an interview he did with Evander

shown several times on Fox Sports (it should be shown before Evander's Auguat 18th fight).

 

(2006) We have held several meetings to continue to build partnerships for the Hall of Fame.

We have meet with Fox Sports, radio station 680 the Fan,

and Decatur Parks and Recreation to discuss potential programs.

  

(2006) Several members of the Advisory Board (Greg, Margaret, Selina, and Larry) 

went to Turner field and saw a traveling exhibit to the Negro Leagues.

The trucking company "Roadway" custom built a 53 ft trailer for the exhibit.

 

(2006) I.J. has put the Hall of Fame on the cover of Score Atlanta at www.scoreatl.com,

and if you click on the latest issue on the right side go to pages 5 and 13 for some articles and more pictures.

 

(2006) CBS/Channel 46 had us on live Friday at 6:00 pm,

then mentions on the Friday 11:00 pm  and Sunday Night shows 

 

(2006) The AJC had us in the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday papers.

 

(2006) Cory Kessler and Fox Sports is doing a few updates this week.

They are on the 11:00pm "Around the South", and then rebroadcast in the

mornings on FSN and Turner South.

 

(2006) CSS had Bobby Cremins on last night, and will have

Red Moore on tonight. 6:00pm, 11:00pm, and then again tomorrow at 8:00am on CSS-Channel 45.

 

(2006) Georgia Trend, the Atlanta Business Chronicle,

and Atlanta Sports and Fitness should have us in their next issues.
